Date and Venue

  • Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Glasgow
  • 19th-21st September 2025

Eligibility

  • Boys Team – Youth A category in 2025
  • Girls Team – Youth A or 2nd year Youth B category in 2025 if no qualifying Youth A rider.
  • Riders must be a member of British Cycling and hold a valid BC racing license.
  • Riders must have North West region listed on their racing license region.

Team

  • Each team will consist of 8 riders (4 male and 4 female athletes)
  • 1 male & 1 female non-travelling reserve will be selected
  • The Inter-Regional Championship is a team competition with results determined using a Team Omnium Format.

Events

Currently the proposed event format will involve two days of racing:

SATURDAY
Match Sprint best rider counts (points x 2 highest placed rider)
Tempo Race 25laps 2 riders to count
Points Race 20km best rider counts (points x 2 highest placed rider)
Scratch Race 10km best rider counts (points x 2 highest placed rider)
Elimination Race 2 riders to count

SUNDAY
Team Sprint points x 4 team position
Team 3km Pursuit points x 4 team position
Madison 20km best rider counts (points x 2 highest placed rider)
Keirin best rider counts (points x 2 highest placed rider)

All riders must compete in>3 events. Final nominations for events Friday 22nd August (no subs after sign on)

Please note that where the selection panel feels that there are insufficient riders of the correct level of ability available for selection, a smaller team may be selected.

Application

  • Riders wishing to be considered for selection should email the expression of interest form to team@bc-nw.co.uk
  • Deadline for expressions of interest is 11th August 2025
  • Riders will be notified of selections no later than 18th August 2025

Selection Criteria

The event will consist of track racing. Selection criteria will comprise of three key areas, the selection panel will consider all three areas to make an informed decision, these are as follows:

  1. Race results
  2. Personal skills
  3. Performance

Race Results

Race results from the following.

  • British Omnium series
  • British Omnium Finals (12th July 2025)

Personal Skills

The selection panel will also consider the following individual attributes, the panel will seek guidance from Regional Cycling Performance Programme staff and club coaches should any additional information be required:

  • Attitude
  • Commitment
  • Behaviour
  • Discipline at races/training
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Training and attendance at the Regional Training Days will also be considered.

Performance Criteria

Selections will also consider performance criteria for the purpose of selection; typically, criteria in British Cycling NSR-Foundation Performance & Results relevant for Team Sprint & Pursuit. (best times standing 250m, 500m TT, 1km TT)

  • Attacking riding – ability to make repeated efforts or attacks.
  • Bike handling ability.
  • Bike Skills
  • Finish position.
  • Tactical awareness

Additional Points

  • An accumulative or average scoring / points system from events shall not be used for selection.
  • The selected team, including any reserves, will be expected to make every effort to attend training
    sessions organised in the lead up to the event.
  • With the use of the above criteria, the selection panel will select a team of riders that they feel have best demonstrated the essential qualities to be competitive at the Inter Regional Championships considering the various points x 4 team position events that make up the event programme.
  • All selections shall be made by an appointed selection panel.
    • The selection panel will be chaired by the North West Region Chair
    • Additional members of the selection panel will include regional team staff as appointed.
    • Where any of the above members of the selection panel are unable to attend the selection panel meeting the North West Region Chair will nominate a replacement.
  • Should any changes to the event format result in the requirement to amend this selection policy, North West Region will endeavour to communicate these changes as soon as possible.
